Una e-mail per protestare contro i maltrattamenti all'asinello di Villanueva de la Vera
In questa pagina (in inglese) si puo' leggere della protesta per l'asinello che ogni anno, ormai da decenni, viene maltrattato a Villanueva de la Vera, in Spagna, in occasione dei festeggiamenti per il carnevale. L'asinello viene cavalcato dall'individuo piu' ubriaco della festa, per circa un'ora, tra le urla e gli spintoni della folla. Quando l'asino cade stremato, viene fatto rialzare e continuare.
L'associazione zoofila spagnola "Il rifugio dell'asinello" chiede a tutti di partecipare a una protesta internazionale di invio di mail al presidente dell'Estremadura, la regione spagnola in cui il paese di Villanueva si trova.
La lettera-tipo e' in inglese, e chiede in sostanza di far rispettare la legge du protezione degli animali emessa nel 2002 e di vietare l'utilizzo dell'asino.

Dear Mr. President,
A celebration known as 'Peropalo' is taking place annually in Villanueva de la Vera. This 'fiesta' is part of the carnival that has been declared as a Celebration of Regional Touristic Interest which has important cultural and historical importance.This celebration is held over several days and there are different rituals taking place. On Carnival Tuesday, however, a donkey is used in one of these rituals, known as the "Corrida de Elecciones". The use of the donkey includes cruelty and ill treatment, causing the donkey to suffer, become extremely stressed and making it the object of unnatural treatment.The Animal Protection Act of Extremadura (Law 5/2002) forbids these types of rituals that, unfortunately, are still taking place even though there are laws in place to protect these animals.In view of the imminent Carnival Celebrations in Villanueva de la Vera, including the "Corrida de Elecciones" we want to make you aware of these facts so you can, in your position as President of the Junta de Extremadura, take the pertinent measures to prevent the use of a donkey in this celebration, as it is a clear breach of Extremadura Animal Protection Law 5/2002. In this way we will ensure compliance with the Law.
